Outline of Matthew 5:1-12

What follows is the first of  a four part series of teaching or preaching outlines for Matthew 5

 


 

 

 

Matthew 5:1-12

 

I.     Intro: Jesus knows His people and teaches them. The people of God have certain characteristics and deal with certain problems. Ultimately, people who love Jesus will be rewarded.

II.  Jesus meets people where they are and teaches them what they need to know. (Matthew 5:1-2)

III.         7 characteristics of people who will inherit the kingdom of God

a.    Poor in spirit – Those who are poor recognize their need for God (Matthew 5:3; James 2:5; Ps 40:7)

b.    Mourners will be comforted by God in heaven (Mt 5:4)

c.    Meek (Mt 5:5)

d.    People who hunger and thirst for righteousness (Mt 5:6)

e.    The merciful (Mt 5:7)

f.     The pure in heart (Mt 5:8)

g.    The peacemakers (Mt 5:9)

IV. What happens to those who love Jesus (Mt 5:10-12)

a.    They will be persecuted, insulted, lied about, rewarded.

V.   Conclusion: Be who God has called you to be
