Who is baptized into Christ?

Some would have us believe that everyone is baptized into Christ, whether they believe in, trust in, Christ or not.

Let us see what scripture says.

Notice that Paul is speaking to people who believed God raised Christ from the dead.
Romans 4:20-5:1;

20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. 22 This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” 23 The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, 24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

And then in Romans 6:3-4 Paul said, “all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus” – NOT that everyone was baptized into Christ Jesus.

3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

This is more clearly seen in Galatians 3:24-29

24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female ; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise.

Some will want to say that EVERYONE is baptized into Christ. But notice, the audience (believers in Galatia) are children of God through faith in Christ. This is NOT the faith OF Christ, for Christ did not have to have faith in Himself – He was God. He knew what He was sent to do, and that He would obey God the Father, we see in John 14:31

31 but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Get up, let us go from here.

It is those who have faith in Christ are who are baptized into Christ – NOT everyone regardless of their faith.
