Acts 7

Day 7, Acts 7

In Acts 7, when Stephen was asked whether certain accusations against him were true, Stephen gave a summary of the history of God’s interaction with mankind through the tribe of Israel. He told of how GOD had worked among men, from Abraham through the patriarchs, through Joseph and Moses – and Israel’s rebellion. He told of the killing of those who gave prophecies of the coming of the Christ. He told of how they, the Jewish people, had killed the Just One.

He laid the guilt for Christ’s death at the feet of his audience, reminding them that their fathers had resisted the Holy Spirit – just as they did. They got so upset, they stoned him.

Stephen saw “the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” Did Stephen worry? No. Did he cast aspersions against his killers, as they were stoning him? No. He forgave them, asking, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.””
