Even Demons believe… So what?

I have seen a lot of people who grew up in Christian churches of various denominations, some of them quite conservative in their doctrine. A lot of people who grew up in church end up seeing it as something that must be done. They might even believe the Bible is the word of God. Indeed, many of them most likely will be able to tell you that God sent Jesus to suffer and die on the cross to pay the price of our sins, that he was human, lived a sinless life, suffered and died for something he did not do, was buried, and rose again on the third day and walked and ate and touch and spoke with the dicsiples, and later ascended into heaven. These people believe they are saved. They believe their belief in the facts is enough to save them.

But their lives are without power. They have bad fruit, or at best have no good fruit. They live lives of worry. They live lives of sin. There is no conviction in them to change their lives. There is no conviction to leave sin. There is no conviction to do the will of God. There is no desire to change their lives to live for Christ. Their hearts are not God’s. They may say the right words, but their actions do not show the power of God.

2 Timothy 3:2-8

2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. 6 For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith.

Matthew 13:23

And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.”

Colossians 1:9-15

9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. 13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Click here to listen to this story from Unshackled! and you will hear an example of someone who grew up in the church, in a very conservative family, who was affected by sin while a child. He became addicted to porn and had an inappropriate relationship with someone. He ended up in jail – believing he was saved. He found out he was not.

The demons know the truth. They shudder at the knowledge of God. But this does not mean they will avoid the lake of fire.

James 2:18-26

18 But someone may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” 19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. 20 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? 22 You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,” and he was called the friend of God. 24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? 26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

Revelation 20:10

And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever
Revelation 20:12-15
12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Unless people repent and turn to God, they WILL die and go into the lake of fire.
Luke 13:1-5
1 Now on the same occasion there were some present who reported to Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were greater sinners than all other Galileans because they suffered this fate? 3 I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. 4 Or do you suppose that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were worse culprits than all the men who live in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”
Have YOU what is needed to avoid perishing?
Do you have repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth?
2 Timothy 2:24-26
24 The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, 25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.
Have you felt the sorrow that produces repentance without regret, leading to salvation?
2 Corinthians 7:10

For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.
Repentance leads to eternal life.
Acts 11:18

When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified God, saying, “Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life.”
People must believe in Christ. If we believe in Christ, if we repent, then we will be saved and we will do things that are in keeping with repentance.
Acts 26:20

but kept declaring both to those of Damascus first, and also at Jerusalem and then throughout all the region of Judea, and even to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds appropriate to repentance.
A belief in facts does not save us. We must REPENT. We must turn to God in faith in Christ. Without that, we’re just going through the motions, denying the power of God. In that case, we are headed to hell.
