FLEE lusts. Pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace

2 Timothy 2:22

22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

FLEE = run away, escape.

PURSUE = hunt down.

We are to FLEE lusts. We are PURSUE righteousness, faith, love and peace. Depending on how you read it, pursue peace with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart, or more likely, do it WITH those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. Its not a lone wolf venture. We are to be in community with others who call Christ Lord from their hearts (not in name only).

Replace lusts with righteousness, faith, love, and peace.

How do we pursue righteousness? According to Romans 6:16, obedience results in righteousness.

How do we pursue faith? Hebrews 11 gives us example after example of people who had faith – it showed in their lives. They made choices which showed they had faith. Does your “faith” show in your choices and how you conduct your life and how you treat people?

How do we pursue love? According to 1 John 3:16-18 says we lay down our lives for others and we love by deeds and truth. 1 John 5:1-3 says we love when we obey God. Do you obey God? Do you read the word of God and then do what it says (in context)? Is your life one of obeying God or of obeying what you want?

How do we pursue peace? First, we have peace with God when we accept that He sent His Son to be born a human, live a sinless life, and suffered and died to pay the penalty for our sins, and was raised again on the third day to show He was God with power over death (John 3:16-18). Second, we do it with others who love God from a pure heart. Third, Christ is our peace (Eph 2:13-15). Fourth, righteousness is sown in peace by peace makers (James 3:18). We are to pursue things which bring peace (Romans 14:19).
