God must open the hearts of people to be able to respond to the gospel – or they might “try” Christianity or Christ and walk away.

God had to open the heart of the first convert in the Macedonia region, in Philippi, so she could respond to the gospel (the things spoken by Paul).

God still has open the hearts of people to be able to respond to the gospel today.

Acts 16:14-15

14 A woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul. 15 And when she and her household had been baptized, she urged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay.” And she prevailed upon us.

God said in Ezekiel 36:26-27 that GOD would give us a new heart, a new spirit, that GOD would move is to follow His decrees and to be careful to follow His laws.

Ezekiel 36:26-27

26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

Indeed, God works in us to desire/will for His good pleasure, and to work for His good pleasure.
Philippians 2:13

for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

Without God working in someone to respond, you will not be saved – even if you go to church and do “all the right things”.

1 John 2:19

They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us.

So if you know people who have tried Christ and it didnt work, or He didnt do anything for them, and they walked away… Please know that God has to work in someone to be able to respond to Him.
