Occult in Narnia

I was asked why I do not like the Chronicles of Narnia.

I dont like Narnia for the same reason i dont like shows which have murder or sex outside of marriage, etc.

Studies show that people are affected by what they see and hear. They begin to embrace the things they watch on tv or movies and are deadened to seeing it, in that it does not cause them to recoil in dread or revulsion.

Scripture tells us bad company corrupts good morals. TV is definitely bad company much of the time. Scripture also tells us that sorcerers are going to the lake of fire.

I know that my upbringing with watching my mom being involved with magic and all things occult (to the point of her being possessed) affected me. I eventually became a witch.

Narnia has magic in it. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and things of that nature show magic as being either good or bad, depending on how one uses it (as I used to believe). I know plenty who do not believe magic is real. I know plenty who do not believe Satan is real. This does not change the truth. Oh, it may not look like harry potter magic, but it can. But the truth is, i try to avoid anything which shows what God has said is sin as a normal thing or something someone might be enticed with.

Since God said sorcerers are getting the second death, I want to avoid my children being enticed that way. So we do not do magic or holloween or shows/books/movies depicting them as normal or ok or even as a solution to a problem or a way to get something lacking.

Revelation 21:8

But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

My beliefs have nothing to do with church teachings. It comes from scripture and my own experience.

I do believe Satan used the narnia series to deaden many christians to the danger of magic and it was the forerunner of the harry potter books.

Most Christians today simply do not understand the spiritual world and the influence Satan has had on them. Its is because they have been manipulated that they can not see the dangers inherent in those books and books of that sort.

Its like people who watch tv shows and movies where people are regularly murdered in response to someone’s behavior or feelings, and see nothing wrong with it and are surprised some child kills his brother or parents.

Or where people watch TV shows and movies with people having sex outside of marriage and are surprised that children have sex and get pregnant.

Yes, many people are able to withstand them and not be tempted, but if one is led to satan because of it, its too many.

Someone said the books are allegories, and filled with Christian symbolism.

I see a whole lot more pagan symbolism than Christian symbolism in narnia. Someone had to point out to me that it was supposed to a christian book and show me the symbolism. Having had it pointed out, I can acceed that some people see that. But I still dont see it.

Someone responded that there is nothing wrong with magic.

But God said there is something wrong with magic. I dont think we should have anything to do with what God said to not do.

Someone else said that the books have Christian characteristics and are not about normal people like us seeking to learn and use magic. That its fantasy.

I understand that. People are free to do what they feel is best – but I truly hope its informed by scripture and not by desire.

Yes, these stories are fiction. They portray magic as normal and acceptable, which could entice people to do magic. If we cause children to sin, then we will have to deal with that.

Matthew 18:6-7

6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. 7 “Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes!

Some claim that we are not participating in magic when we read Narnia. There was a wonderful response by someone to that:

“Example: porn. When you look at it you are not actually physically doing the act but you are allowing your self to be entertained by it therefor you are in sin.

It’s the same thing”

Some say that this is a matter of conscience, as we see in Romans 14. To that, I say Narnia has witches who do magic. One is portrayed as good, and one is portrayed as evil. God has defined sorcery as evil which causes people to end up in the lake of fire. For ME, that removes it from the area of conscience and where only those of weak faith have to worry about it (as we see in Romans 14). God said to have nothing to do with evil. I fail miserably in that, but I still try to not expose my children to such things in ways which shows them as something that might be enticing to do evil.
