Is Porn harmless and is God OK with you viewing it?

Someone said that a little porn is innocent and harms no one and so God is ok with it. I had to address this.

Christ was very clear that lusting after a women is committing adultery.

Matthew 5:28

but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

So then viewing porn (movies or pictures) and reading exotic literature/stories causes us to desire someone sexually, to lust after them. This is what Jesus said is adultery. Adultery is one form of sexual immorality.

Sexual immorality is specifically mentioned as something which keeps people from getting into the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

So viewing porn or reading letters that cause us to lust are causing us to commit sexual immorality. This is NOT something innocent!

This is why I wrote in an earlier post that one reason for marriage it to avoid sexual immorality.

If anyone thinks the God of the universe is OK with us sinning, then they are either VERY mistaken or not following the one true God who is holy and righteous and demands we stop sinning.

God tells us EVERYONE sins and that sin earns us spiritual death.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We must stop sinning, confess, repent, and turn to God.
Acts 26:20
but kept declaring both to those of Damascus first, and also at Jerusalem and then throughout all the region of Judea, and even to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds appropriate to repentance

Romans 10:9-10
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved, 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

Its not that God doesn’t think we wont sin. But God demands we stop, recognizing without His spirit and power, we are unable to do so. We have to confess our sins so God will forgive them and cleanse us from unrighteousness.

1 John 1:8-10

8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

In fact, its clear from scripture that if we claim to be Christ’s then we can NOT make a practice of sinning.
1 John 3:9

9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God

1 John 5:18

18 We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.

So we have to give up sinning, and when we fail, we need to change/repent, confess our sins to God, and stop sinning again. We can most easily do this by praying, confessing our sins to brothers in Christ would will pray for us and keep us accountable, and pray with our own spouse, and taking every thought captive for Christ, and replacing the lies of the world and our own thoughts with the reality and truth of Scripture, and obey God.

James 5:16

Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

2 Corinthians 10:5

We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

So no, viewing/reading porn/exotic writings is not innocent. It is sexual immorality, and is one of the things God has specifically mentioned that we can not do. We need to change, confess it to God, ask others to pray for us and hold us accountable, and keep turning to God so we have evidence of our repentance.

Transgender and the Bible

I have been asked what does the Bible have to say about transgenderism, or whether it is a sin. I have been thinking about this and looking for what scripture says about it. The phrases ‘transgender’ and ‘gender dyspohoria’ did not exist when the bible was written. But this does not mean they did not exist.

We have to recognize that God has said He created people male or female and that it was very good (Genesis 1:27, 31; Matthew 19:4). God is the one who knit us together in our mothers’ womb and made us wondrously made (Psalm 139:13-14). From this we see that our gender, which is part of us, is good, and is decided by God’s choice, not ours. There are no other genders.

There ARE rare cases, where the body has different chromosomes than the norm – but those are extremely rare. We do not know how sin has corrupted our chromosomes, or whether God intended these from the start and simply did not tell us. But we know that God created us male and female. But this discussion is about changing the body from one gender to another.

Gender dysphoria is the mental condition where a person feels discomfort with their own gender and believe they would feel better if they were the opposite gender and want to do something to their bodies to match their mental image – like Body Integrity Identity Disorder. The common treatment is to give hormones to cause the body to act as if it were the opposite gender, and to dress as the opposite gender, and to undergo surgery to change the body to appear as the opposite gender. But people who have transitioned have a significantly increased chance of committing suicide, when compared to those who do not transition. There are an increasing number of people who have transitioned who have found that did not solve their problems and have transitioned back. Also, the huge majority of people who feel gender dysphoria as children will reconcile their brain to their body as they mature.

While some would like to say there are no Bible verses concerning transgender, I would like to say that there are in fact verses in the Bible which indicate God’s perspective on people transitioning from one gender to another.

We see in Deuteronomy 22:5 the prohibition to dress as the opposite gender. This has been commonly restricted to people who are transvestites. But it applies to all who would present themselves as having a different body than they actually have – and so it applies to those who consider themselves to be transgender, especially before physical transition. It would also apply after transition surgery, since the person’s chromosomes would not change, and while after hormones and surgery the person might appear to be the gender opposite than they were born with, they are still their original gender.

We see in Deuteronomy 23:1 that men who have their testicles crushed or their male organ removed are not to be in the assembly of God’s people. This was was a strong prohibition and tells us what God thinks of removal of sexual organs.

We also see in Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:26-27, and 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 that God has said people are not to have sex with people of the same gender, which would be the gender the person had at birth.

We can see in Matthew 19:4-5 that God created men and women and said they should marry. In fact, Paul was clear that one reason to marry is to avoid sexual immorality so each man could have his own wife, and each woman her own husband (1 Corinthians 7:2).

Just because we might believe something in our heart does not mean it can be trusted. Our hearts are deceitful above all else (Jeremiah 17:9, Mark 7:20-22). So we must be careful when we are tempted to say that we believe God made us have the wrong physical gender. Instead we must look to what scripture states.

For those who believe God would want them to be happy as someone of the opposite gender rather than holy, God has made it clear that people who will follow Him must deny themselves (Matthew 16:24). In fact we are told to destroy spiritual fortresses and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). Once we are Christ’s in every area, our joy will grow (recognizing that some may need medication to help in this area).

Given that God is against dressing as a different gender than one’s birth gender, against the removal of sexual organs, and against people having sex with people of the same birth gender as them, people should seek to heal emotionally rather than seek to transition.

We must not reject people who believe they are doing the right thing by transitioning in part because they have a mental disorder. But more than that, Isaiah told us in Isaiah 56:4-5 that eunuchs who who keep God’s sabbaths, choose what pleases God, and hold fast God’s covenant,  will be given by God an everlasting name which will not be cut off. In those days, it was impossible to replace parts which have been removed. But if after a person had removed sexual body parts, they chose to obey God and do things to please God, God would bless them.

Like everyone, God forgives us when we confess our sins (agree with God about them), repent (change), and turn to Him through faith in Christ and gives us eternal life – and we will have evidence of repentance and faith (Acts 10:43; Acts 26:20; Colossians 2:13; 1 John 1:9).

Sin and health

Certainly not all illness is caused by our sins or by demons. But there are scriptures which show at least some illness is caused by our sin.

Is your health adversely affected because of your unconfessed and unrepented sin?

Deuteronomy 28:58-62
58 “If you are not careful to observe all the words of this law which are written in this book, to fear this honored and awesome name, the Lord your God, 59 then the Lord will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants, even severe and lasting plagues, and miserable and chronic sicknesses. 60 He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt of which you were afraid, and they will cling to you. 61 Also every sickness and every plague which, not written in the book of this law, the Lord will bring on you until you are destroyed. 62 Then you shall be left few in number, whereas you were as numerous as the stars of heaven, because you did not obey the Lord your God.

Psalm 107:17
Fools, because of their rebellious way, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted.

1 Corinthians 11:27-31
27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly. 30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep. 31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged.

James 5:13-16
13 Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15 and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much

Six degrees of separation and consequences to actions/decisions

Ever wonder about why life is so hard? Why does God allow bad things to happen? I’ve been pondering this lately….

Posit: God CAN cause people to make the choice He wants, but that would be a supernatural intervention and while possible, has only rarely been documented to have happened. In most cases, God lets us make choices.

Now, have you considered that there are six degrees of separation between you and anyone else on the planet?

What if that also applies to effect of actions/decisions? What if your action could affect someone on the other side planet because of six degrees of separation?

What if you eat something that gives you gas, and you fart out loud and someone laughs and he is on the phone with someone who didnt know why he laughed and took it personally and told her girlfriend and was convinced by her girlfriend that the guy laughed at her and she cried to her boyfriend who decided to beat the guy up – just because you ate something that gave you gas….

I think we could come up with a scenario where someone on the other side of the world who is within six degrees of separation would be affected by your actions/decision, if we tried hard enough…

My only point is, God uses our choices and actions to move the universe forward in His plan and since we affect those around us, God probably very rarely has to cause a decision to be made, He usually just orchestrates the choices we freely make to bring out His goal…

Feeling bad when speaking about God

I have heard folks that like to talk with me about God, until they start to feel bad, then they dont want to talk to me any more.

Feeling bad because of who God is or what God wants from us and for us, or what God will do, is not a bad thing. It is one tool God uses to move us closer to being who He wants us to be. It is one tool God uses to give us faith. It is one tool God uses to change us. It is one tool God uses save us.

Look folks, I am not perfect. I was and am a sinner. The difference between before I became a Christian and afterwards is that I now have faith in Christ and so I have the righteousness of Christ. Before I was simply a sinner. Now I am a sinner saved by grace through faith. Before I became a Christian, I had the wrath of God upon me. Now, I have the grace of God upon me and am forgiven – not because of anything I have or will do, but because of what Christ has done.

Look at the worst of sinners you can imagine and there but for the grace of God go I.

Before I had faith in Christ, I could not please God. Now I work out my salvation and try to think and act like Christ would have me and when I fail, because I do and will fail, I feel conviction and contrition. And I change, and I confess and I ask forgiveness. God is faithful to His own nature. Should I walk away from God and stay away, that will prove I did not have saving faith to begin with – regardless of what I thought and did. It is God who saved me, who saves me, who will save me, who gave me faith, and who sealed me and who empowers me and who guides me and who protects me and and keeps me – not me. Yet I have my responsibility to live as God would have me live.

There but for the grace of God go I; I am not facing the condemnation of God, nor am I facing the wrath of God. Because of the grace of God, because of His love for His creation, I was chosen and given faith and saved – not because I am who I am, or I did what I have done, or I will do what I will do, and certainly not because God knew I would choose Christ (for then my salvation would depend upon me and my actions), but because God would give me faith to be able to choose Him and ensured I would and did choose to trust in Christ and follow and obey Christ.

So be glad and grateful and rejoice when you feel bad when you think or speak about God – and change and turn to God in repentance and faith and be saved.

Can a practicing homosexual to be a Christian?

I saw an article where a woman claiming to be a Christian fell in love with a another woman, divorced her husband and married her new love: http://www.charismanews.com/us/64992-famed-christian-mommy-blogger-throws-faith-to-the-wind-to-marry-lesbian-partner . There was one line which really caught my attention, where she said if Jesus “needed me to believe that homosexuality was a sin, He would have mentioned it.”

The thing is, God has done exactly that:

Lev 19:1

And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, …

Lev_20:13

If a man also lies with mankind, as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be on them.

Adopting a sinful lifestyle shows the “christian” is only one in name, not in  fact.

We are only Christians is we hold fast to the faith until the end.

Hebrews 3:6

but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.

Hebrews 3:13-14

13 But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end

Not everyone who claims to be a Christian is actually a Christian.

Matthew 7:21-23

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of
heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’

If we love Christ, if we know God, we will keep his commandments.

1 John 2:3-6

3 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His
commandments. 4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does
not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; 5 but
whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been
perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: 6 the one who says he
abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

And God as clear that homosexual sex is a sin, against what God has said to do.
It doesnt matter if the person is male or female, they are not to have sex with someone of the same gender.
Romans 1:24-32

24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.  26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.  28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10

9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Timothy 1:8-11

8 But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9 realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers 10 and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, 11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.

So although some might want to claim God has not said anything about homosexual sex, the fact is that He did – its a sin. We are not to sin.

A Christian is to live righteously.

It astounds me people who have been taught the truth about God want to keep poo-pooing what scripture says, ignoring it in favor of choosing to follow their own desires.

But remember, we are expected to love our brothers – this means showing them how to live righteously, calling them on NOT doing so, and then forgiving them when/if they repent.

Calling someone on their behavior is not the same thing as judging them. According to JESUS CHRIST, we are expected to live righteous lives. And we are expected to call out our brothers in Christ who are not living like God said to live. And we are expected to forgive them when they repent.

Matthew 7:21-23
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’

Matthew 18:15-17
15 “If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. 16 But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact may be confirmed. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

Matthew 18:21-22
21 Then Peter came and said to Him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus *said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
