Chronological Bible Reading 2 Samuel 5:1-10, 1 Chronicles 11-12

30 April 2020, Chronological Bible Reading, 2 Samuel 5:1-10, 1 Chronicles 11-12.

My wife, Lori, and I are reading through the Bible in chronological order, which is the order in which the events happened. Her blog on this can be found here. This is not intended to be a lesson or a sermon. It is my thoughts and notes as I read through the text and as I sometimes look things up. Today we read 2 Samuel 5:1-10, 1 Chronicles 11-12.

2 Samuel 5:1-10

The first 10 verses of 2 Samuel 5 tell us all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and he made a covenant with the leaders. David became king when he was thirty years old. At Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah. David captured the city Zion.

1 Chronicles 11

This chapter is details about 2 Samuel 5:1-10. All Israel came to David at Hebron, and he made a covenant with the leaders. He conquered Jebus (AKA Jerusalem, Zion, City of David). The chapter describes the mighty men of David.

1 Chronicles 12

This chapter details things that happened before David had become king. It summarizes the narrative covered in 1 Samuel 27–2 Samuel 5. Men from the various tribes of Israel came to be part of his army. This ends with a feast associated with the coronation of David in 2 Samuel 5.
