Chronological Bible Reading Deuteronomy 11 to 13

14 March 2020, Chronological Bible Reading, Deuteronomy 11 to 13.

My wife, Lori, and I are reading through the Bible in chronological order, which is the order in which the events happened. Her blog on this can be found here. This is not intended to be a lesson or a sermon. It is my thoughts and notes as I read through the text and as I sometimes look things up. Today we read Deuteronomy 11 to 13.

Deuteronomy 11

The people are reminded to love and obey the Lord and teach their children to obey because of what God had done, and because success and longevity in the land depended on it (11:8-25). They are told they will have blessings if they obey, and curses if they don’t (11:26-32).

Deuteronomy 12

Moses repeated the instructions about the need to completely destroy the false worship centers after Israel took possession of Canaan. They were to worship where and how God decided.

Deuteronomy 13

The people are reminded that if anyone, whether a prophet or a family member, tries to lead them to follow a false god, then they are to not follow him, but kill him instead. If a city is enticed into following a false god, they were to investigate it and if it was true, they were to destroy the city and everyone and everything in it.
